Just like humans, our four-legged furry friends require preventative dental care, and our veterinarians will make sure they get it. At Family Pet Hospital, we treat patients and their beloved pets just like our own family.
We know how important it is to protect your pet’s oral health and treat dental problems as they occur. We offer dental care for dogs and cats, including dental exams, dental cleanings, injury treatment, dental disease care.
Your pets depend on their pearly whites to eat, fetch, play, groom, and more. Their dental health is directly related to their quality of life, so it’s important for owners to stay on top of routine dental care. Since pets cannot communicate discomfort or pain as easily as humans can, it’s important to have our professionals routinely take a look at their teeth.
All pets need regular dental exams, but if your pet is already showing signs of a possible dental problem, it’s very important to come in as soon as possible. Here are some of the most common pet dental problems that require attention from our vet:
- Bad breath
- Broken teeth
- Loose teeth
- Refusal to eat
- Bleeding from the mouth
- Swelling around the mouth
- Abnormal chewing
- Dropping food while eating
- Abnormal drooling
- Discolored teeth
- Teeth coated in tartar
- Extra teeth
If your pet shows any of these symptoms, call today to make an appointment with our veterinarian.
We will take a closer look inside your pet’s mouth, and may follow up with X-rays and further diagnostics before scheduling a more thorough dental exam and cleaning. During this exam, your pet will be sedated to reduce stress, pain, and injury risks, as we will examine his mouth and fully clean, scale, and polish each tooth.
At Family Pet Hospital, we offer full dental services including simple and complex extractions.
All dentals are performed under general anesthesia. All patients get intravenous fluid to keep blood pressure in the normal range. Local lidocaine blocks are applied prior to extractions to minimize post-extraction pain. All patients then go home with post-operative antibiotics. For extractions, pets are sent home with pain meds as well.
